Thermomix TM7 vs TM6: the 7 key differences
Considering a Thermomix — the new TM7 or a second-hand TM6? Both are excellent kitchen robots, but the TM7 brings concrete improvements that matter in daily cooking. These are the seven key differences.
1. Open cooking, browning and steaming
The biggest innovation: the TM7 can cook, brown and steam with the lid open. Sear your meat, then braise it — in one device, no extra pan. The TM6 always cooks closed.
2. 20 cooking modes instead of 17
The TM7 offers 20 cooking modes versus 17 on the TM6, including new modes for browning and slow cooking. Every Cookidoo recipe starts the right mode automatically.
3. Larger, square Varoma
The TM7 steamer is larger and square — more vegetables or a complete main dish steamed in one go.
4. Quieter cooking and magnetic lid
While cooking, the TM7 is noticeably quieter. The lid locks magnetically instead of mechanically: easier to place and better splash protection.
5. Flatter design, heavier mixing bowl
The TM7 is flatter and more modern, and the bowl weighs about 600 grams more — sturdier and more stable when kneading heavy doughs.
6. What stays the same?
The Cookidoo recipe platform, the familiar precision (temperature, weight, timing) and the accessory range work on both models. Most TM6 recipes also work on the TM7.
7. Which should you choose?
Want the latest and cook with variety? The TM7 is the logical choice. On a tighter budget with a TM6 available second-hand? We advise on both. In a free demo you see the device in practice — just tell us what you want to see.
